6th September 2015 Home Valley via Ellenbrae Station to Drysdale Station.

We camped overnight at Home Valley Station.  The facilities were good and they even had a playground for kids.  They also had permanent tents for hire.  Their restaurant was excellent.

Home Valley Station - horse riding, walking, swimming and many other activities

They also have a lovely swimming pool at Home Valley Station.  There is also and alternative camping area called the River Camp which is on the other side of the road from the main centre.  It also has showers/toilets.  However campers at River Camp are advised to set up camp on the other side of the track from the river due to the risk of crocodile attacks if you are too close to the water. See pictures below.

River Camp Facilities

On leaving Home Valley Station it is useful to know that about 2km west there is a lookout just to the left of the road where there is both internet and phone reception  - we spent some time there catching up with the outside world!  At this lookout we were surprised to see a cyclist arrive.  He was French and he told us that he had ridden from France!!  He mainly slept rough in the bush and worked here and there!  Incredible!

Ellenbrae Station

The last thing you expect in the very remote Kimberley region is a delicious Devonshire Tea!  We were advised to call in here on our way to Drydale Station and sample their morning tea and it didn't disappoint!  The warm scones, jam and cream were lovely and Ellenbrae - only a short distance off the main Gibb River Rd provided a welcome break in our bumpy journey.  There is a basic camping area here but to say the facilities here are basic is an under-statement!

 The Dunny

Care must be taken when driving on unsealed roads.  Speed is often the cause of blown tyres, skidding and other accidents.  The roof of the camper below was on the opposite side of the road.

Drysdale Station - 1 million acres - 4,000 sq km

It is hard to imagine the size of these cattle properties.  Like Home Valley, Drysdale Station also has an alternative camp site at Miners Pool,
