17th - 20th September 2015- Kooljaman Resort, Cape LeVeque

17th September - travelled to the tip of Cape LeVeque

The local store at One Arm Point

We travelled up to One Arm Point only to discover that there is no longer any camping there so we went on to Kooljaman.  We loved it there and decided to stay for 4 nights.  From here you can see the sunrise on East Beach and sunset on West Beach on either side of the headland!  It is a truly beautiful area.  There are beach cabins that can be hired if camping is not your style.  This area is a must on any itinerary for the north of Western Australia!  It is known as the place where the red of the Australian Outback meets the blue of the Indian Ocean!  Truly very beautiful!!!

Kooljaman Resort - Reception/Shop/Restaurant

We checked in and drove to our campsite and guess who was parked opposite?  Our friends Lesley & Keith whom we met in Broome when they were parked behind us. (They live in Coolum just a short distance from our home in Cooroy).  It's a small world even in remote Australia.  We also became friendly with a couple parked beside us, Tracy & Mark.  Tracy walked down to the beach with us the next day and we had fun in the surf.  They had an Aussie Swag Camper - one that we aspired to - it was very interesting talking to them and learning all about their camper-trailer.  On our last day at Kooljaman, in drove Peter, the American guy living in Oz - we first met him at the start of the Gibb River Road at El Questro and later ran into him again at Manning Gorge and now at Kooljaman. When you travel in remote areas, you bump into the same people a lot as there are no crowds or towns to get lost in.

Early Morning Walk on West Beach

Our early morning walk was aborted when we noticed some Dingoes up ahead.  They appeared to be a mother and her pup so we decided retreat was the best option.

The Kooljaman Lighthouse taken from East Beach

The resort is on the other side of the hill where the lighthouse is situated just a short walk to the beaches on either side of the peninsular.
